It has been six years since Microsoft released Fora Motorsport 7 to the world. The world has changed since then, there’s a brand new X-Box line of consoles, and a slew of new racing games dominating the market. Recently Microsoft has unveiled their latest, Forza Motorsport, a game designed to redefine the racing experience.
There are several new changes that Microsoft has brought to their popular racing franchise, the first starting with the name. While this is technically number eight in the series, Microsoft has instead opted to call it simply, ‘Forza Motorsport’. Implying that this will be a different game than their previous releases.
Microsoft claims that Forza Motorsport is supposed to truly harness the power of the Series X console with features like FK at 120 FPS and ray-tracing. Early tests of the game have been positive with testers reporting smooth dynamics and crisp controls. Using the graphical and processing power of the Series X allows developers to add enhanced night and weather modes, create more dynamic track conditions and razor sharp details.
There will be a slew of car packs and potential expansions for the game over the next year or two, but what will players be getting right out of the box? There will be over five hundred playable cars, including unreleased cars like the 2024 Chevrolet E-Ray. There is also about a dozen new tracks added along to old favorites, players will be able trace across the entire world form the United States, to the Alps, to South Africa.
Another new feature is what is called the ‘builders cup’. This is a new career mode for players where the object is to not only drive the fastest cars, but to build the fastest cars to achieve victory. This is supposed to translate into a more intuitive racing experience where players don’t merely just buy fast cars, now they will have to truly learn the vehicle.
Another small change is that credits will not be coming back. How will players be able to get new cars or parts? A new feature called, ‘car points’. Car points can be gained by winning races or taking part in limited time events. Essentially its the same thing as the credit system but I guess ‘car points’ just sound better.
Forza Motorsport is an attempt from Microsoft to insert themselves as the premier racing experience for consoles and from what I have seen so far, it will appear that they have done just that. Forza Motorsport appears to be a full scale redesign of their successful franchise creating the most personal and dynamic experience yet.
