Recently I’ve been laughing at the amount of people making comments about a ‘totalitarian’ government or a ‘democratic’ government without realizing what they’re actually saying. To help curb the misinformation, I’ve created this short guide to help explain to you how political ideologies actually work, using Legos to illustrate the point. Enjoy!

Socialism
You are given a box of legos, with only one set of instructions. You are to share the box of legos with your sibling, and only build what the instructions say, independently of whether you want to.

Communism
You and your sibling are given a small handful of legos. You are expected build a lego city with only your small handful and no instructions.

Monarchy
Your sibling owns a box of legos and allows you to play with it. So long as you build what they want you to build.

Despotism
Your sibling owns a box of legs and refuses to allow you to touch it.

Totalitarianism
You and your sibling fight over who owns the box of legos. Your Mom gets sick of the noise and confiscates the box of legos.

Democracy
You and your sibling jointly own the box of legos. In order too build anything you both must agree on what to build. You are constantly arguing with your sibling and nothing is ever built.

Republic
You and your sibling evenly split the box of legos and you each build whatever you want.

Federalism
Your Mom keeps the box of legos and decides when you can play with it.

Leninism
You find a random box of legos and decide it belongs to you. You begin to build a castle, halfway through your sibling stomps all over it and then claims the box of legos for themselves.

To conclude – it amuses me to observe countless individuals confidently discussing the concepts of “totalitarian” and “democratic” governments, unaware of the true essence behind the words they use. To tackle the pervasive problem of misinformation, I have meticulously (pun intended) prepared a succinct guide that elucidates the intricate workings of political ideologies. This enlightening resource creatively utilizes Legos as a captivating visual aid to enhance the learning experience, aiming to engage learners in a profound and immersive way.
