De-Churched: How The Church Lost Me – Part 1

For someone who doesn't wear a suit or speak good 'Christianese', the church has little to offer. Everyone calls one another 'brother' and 'sister,' yet they treat their neighbors better. We call it 'fellowship' and yet there is little if any real community going on. For the hundreds and thousands of people like me, we didn't choose to be de-churched. We feel that the church left us.

Beyond Liturgy; Embracing A Theology of Life

When a fellow comes forward in all sorts of curious garments and says he is a priest, the poorest child of God may say, 'Stand away and don't interfere with my office—I am a priest—I know not what you may be. You surely must be a priest of Baal, for the only mention of the word vestments in Scripture is in connection with the temple of Baal.' The priesthood belongs to all the saints! They sometimes call you laity, but the Holy Spirit says of all the saints, 'You are God's cleros'—you are God's clergy. Every child of God is a clergyman or a clergywoman. There are no priestly distinctions known in Scripture. Away with them! Away with them forever!" - Charles Spurgeon

Flawed Faith, Hypocrisy and Jesus

In my previous post I discussed a recent scandal involving a Reformed pastor. My intention was not to be harsh or judgmental. I was, and still am, fairly upset at the sheer hypocrisy and pettiness going on in the Church. I need anyone reading this to understand exactly what sort of background I'm writing from.

Wake Up Church! (Yes, That Means You!)

It's been a wild couple of weeks. Here in my home state of Florida, we have been subject to the equivalent of a donkey kick to the teeth. Hurricane Helene has been far more devastating than we could have imagined. As the hurricane was wreaking its devastation across the state, I went with my family to a rental home. While the winds were tearing apart the landscape, I was watching aghast at the Steve Lawson controversy. If you aren't familiar with what has gone down, essentially a very conservative, Reformed pastor has been caught in an adulterous affair.

Free To Live A More Authentic Faith

Being more authentic in our faith means returning to everything that is real about our faith. Over the centuries Christianity has picked up a lot of baggage. Some bad theology and unnecessary traditions. This is a tactic of the devil. If one can't utterly stamp something out, then the backup plan is reverting to confusion. Muddy the waters so to speak. Flood the minds of the people so they'll never be able to see the real truth. It's not just in religion, it's everywhere else.
